So too with this blog. This wasn’t my first notion that I would move from anonymous dilettante to public writer. Indeed, some have seen what I’ve written in the past, elsewhere. Praised it and criticized it. And I found I liked having an audience. That was a while ago.
Time, life, personal preferences, issues, laziness all have conspired to end that. These posts are a way of renewing my writing and my writer’s spirit. Writing is always such a struggle. In many ways it is a frivolous undertaking, the ultimate indulgence. But people need to daydream out loud. Thankfully many people are willing to listen to our daydreams. So writing is a forgiven activity. One hope I have for this page (my “blogbook”?) is to gain your indulgence, and if not, to realize there’s a reason I haven’t gained your indulgence.
I have a few other goals for this place: first is merely to write. Second is to clear my thoughts as I work on more serious projects and problems. I’ll create many things here, but larger ideas need more privacy. Lastly, this is a tool to help me grow up, help me “get serious” about my writing and my life. It seems tragic that a person of my age should say such a thing, but I see the statement as positive. Thankfully I realized I needed to get serious. So many today seem content with merely chasing their tails.
One last thing: This isn’t a personal journal. I’ll rarely talk about myself and when I do you’ll know it. This page is a tool, a writer’s journal, a place to explore, question, pontificate, and challenge. This is my starting point for understanding the larger world.
So hello, world. Meet my scribbles and scratches, offerings and observations, fictions, near fictions, and untrue desires, my occasional confessions, most minor, some not. Feel free to comment (or not), to criticize (or not), to enjoy from afar or to take part in any dialogue we should find ourselves in. Mostly, I hope you stay. I hope you invite me into your worlds as well.
